Afrotronica was started by Fenibo Kalaiwo, a native of Nigeria now resident in America.

Originally trained as a classical guitarist, Fenibo later studied jazz guitar. Building on this foundation he went on to broaden his musical experience through membership in various funk and reggae bands.

Around 1990 he formed a band that played original contemporary African-influenced dance music. This experience led to an intense study of traditional West African rhythms which culminated in the electronic Orisha drums to be offered here.

The music is primarily dance music with influences encompassing the entire African diaspora, including contemporary African music as well as modern jazz, rock and funk.
Some specific musical influences include: J.S. Bach; Coltrane; Hendrix; Marley; Fela Kuti.

In the near future we will be offering our CD's in an online store that specializes in music, art, jewelry, and clothing. We work with craftsmen and musicians to reconfigure art and music for unlimited uses. Our music is unique and combines ancient styles and traditions with contemporary sounds.
